North Andover has joined the Wait Until 8th movement. This national movement empowers parents to rally together and delay giving their children a smartphone until at least the end of 8th grade. The more parents that make the pledge, the move powerful, impactful and easier it will be.
According to Brooke Shannon, founder of the movement, "these devices are quickly changing childhood for children. Playing outdoors, spending time with friends, reading books and hanging out with family is happening a lot less to make room for hours of snap chatting, instagramming, and catching up on YouTube."
Step 1: Learn about the impact of smartphones and social media on our children. Click here to visit our Resource Library and scroll down to Internet and Cell Phone Safety where we have an interview with Brooke Shannon, and many articles about the topic.
Step 2: Join the movement and make the pledge at: www.waituntil8th.org
As of June 2025, the following North Andover schools/classes have joined the pledge (this means that ten or more families in this grade within a school have pledged to Wait Until 8th to give their child(ren) a smartphone):
Sargent School, grade 3
